Catan (also known as Settlers of Catan) is a strategic board game for three to four players in which you build settlements, construct roads and establish cities on an island of hexagonal territory tiles. Each settlement, city and special card earns victory points. The first player to reach ten victory points wins the game. How scoring works in Catan
In Catan you earn victory points for structures you build and for special achievements. Some points are visible to everyone; others remain hidden until someone wins the game.

- •City (upgraded settlement): 2 victory points
- •Longest Road (at least 5 roads, longer than any opponent): 2 points
- •Largest Army (at least 3 knight cards, more than any opponent): 2 points
- •Victory Point cards (drawn from the development card deck): 1 point per card
- •Goal: 10 victory points — the first player to reach this wins immediately
Example: Player A has two settlements (2 points), one city (2 points), Longest Road (2 points) and one hidden Victory Point card (1 point) = 7 victory points. Three more points needed to win. A score tracker helps you follow how far everyone is from 10 points.
