Mexican Train Dominoes Score Tracker: track scores for free

Mexican Train Dominoes is one of the most popular variants of the classic domino game. Two to eight players build their own 'train' — a chain of domino tiles connected to the central hub — while the 'Mexican Train' is a public chain any player can add to. The game is played over multiple rounds (typically 13, one per set from double-12 to double-0), and the player with the lowest cumulative pip count at the end wins. A reliable score tracker is the difference between a smooth game night and endless hand calculations.

How scoring works in Mexican Train Dominoes

At the end of each round all players count the pips on the tiles remaining in their hand. That value is recorded as their round score. After all rounds, the player with the lowest cumulative total wins.

  • Each round ends when one player empties their hand or no one can play
  • All players count the pips on their remaining tiles
  • The round score is the total pip value held — including the winner (normally 0 points)
  • Double-blank counts as 0 points, double-12 counts as 24 points
  • After all 13 rounds the player with the lowest total wins
  • Optional rule: a player with a train marker on their train must play to that train on their turn

Example: round 5 (starting with double-8). A plays their last tile. B holds 18 pips, C holds 7 and D holds 31. A records 0, B records 18, C records 7 and D records 31. After all rounds each player sums their total — the lowest total wins.
